Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects cell membranes and other fat-soluble parts of the body, such as LDL cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol), from damage. Only when LDL is damaged does cholesterol appear to lead to heart disease, and vitamin E is an important antioxidant protector of LDL. Vitamin E also plays some role in the body's ability to process glucose. Some, but not all, trials suggest that vitamin E supplementation may eventually prove to be helpful in the prevention and treatment of diabetes.

Red Clover Flower Extract Powder

Red clover is a perennial herb that grows up to 18 inches in height. Native to Europe, central Asia and northern Africa, it is now found in many other parts of the world. Both fresh and dried flower heads can be used medicinally. Red clover flowers contain a number of substances believed to facilitate healing, including a volatile oil and isoflavones. In traditional Chinese medicine, red clover is believed to help clean the blood, clear heat and remove toxins. Internally, red clover is used as an alternative medicine for hot flashes that occur during menopause; skin complaints such as eczema and psoriasis; chronic degenerative diseases; gout; whooping cough; and dry coughs.Research is currently being conducted on slaframine, an alkaloid found in diseased versions of red clover, which may be used to fight diabetes. In addition, many of the isoflavones contained in red clover have demonstrated antitumor activity. However, this does not mean that red clover can successfully treat cancer, as some have claimed.

Bee Pollen

Bee pollen is the male seed of a flower blossom which has been gathered by the bees and to which special elements from the bees has been added. The honeybee collects pollen and mixes it with its own digestive enzymes. One pollen granule contains from one hundred thousand to five million pollen spores each capable of reproducing its entire species. More than 40 research studies document the therapeutic efficacy and safety of bee pollen. Clinical tests show that orally ingested bee pollen particles are rapidly and easily absorbed--they pass directly from the stomach into the blood stream. Within two hours after ingestion, bee pollen is found in the blood, in cerebral spinal fluids, and in the urine. Bee pollen rejuvenates your body, stimulates organs and glands, enhances vitality, and brings about a longer life span. Bee pollen's ability to consistently and noticeably increase energy levels makes it a favorite substance among many world class athletes and those interested in sustaining and enhancing quality performance. Bee pollen contains most of the known nutrients, including all of those necessary for human survival. When compared to any other food, it contains a higher percentage of all necessary nutrients. Bee pollen is approximately 25% complete protein containing at least 18 amino acids. In addition, bee pollen provides more than a dozen vitamins, 28 minerals, 11 enzymes or co-enzymes, 14 beneficial fatty acids, 11 carbohydrates, and is rich in minerals, the full spectrum of vitamins, and hormones. It is low in calories. Bee pollen provides anti-oxidants that scavenge free radicals caused by exposure to radiation, chemical pollutants, and other intense physical or emotional stressors. Bee pollen significantly reduced the usual side-effects of both radium and cobalt-60 radiotherapy in twenty-five women who had been treated for inoperable uterine cancer. The women who took the pollen were considerably healthier, looks years younger and had stronger immunological responses. These women registered beneficial increases in a number of areas, including red and white blood cell counts and serum protein levels. The women also reported feeling an improved sense of well-being. Bee pollen proved beneficial for nausea, poor appetite after radiation treatments, sleep disorders, urinary and rectal disorders, and for general decline and weakness after treatment.

Dong Quai Root Powder

Angelica sinensis, a.k.a. Chinese angelica, Dang Gui or Dong Quai, is a perennial herb that grows to about 3 feet high and flowers during August-September. The root of Angelica sinensis is a well-known Chinese herb that has been used in the treatment of female ailments in China and Korea for thousands of years. Dang Gui's reputation as a tonic is second only to Panax ginseng, and it is particularly noted for its 'blood tonic' effects on women. Dang Gui contains significant quantity of vitamin B12 and vitamin E, and biotin, ferulic acid, nicotinic acid, butylidenephalide, ligustilide, folinic acid, succinic acid, carotene, beta-sitosterol, sequiterpenes, and carvacrol. The root of Angelica sinensis is alterative, analgesic, anticholesterolemic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, emmenagogue, emollient, hepatic, laxative, sedative and peripheral vasodilator. It is commonly used in the treatment of a wide range of women's complaints where it regulates the menstrual cycle and relieves period pain and also to ensure a healthy pregnancy and easy delivery. Dang Gui lowers blood pressure, slows heart rate, reduces respiratory rate, dilates coronary vessels and increases coronary blood flow.

Diamiana Herb Powder

The leaves of damiana were originally used as medicine by the indigenous cultures of Central America, particularly Mexico. Today the plant is found in hot, humid climates, including Mexico and parts of Texas, the Caribbean, and southern Africa. Damiana has been hailed as an aphrodisiac since ancient times, particularly by the native peoples of Mexico.1 Other folk uses have included asthma, bronchitis, neurosis, and various sexual disorders.2 It has also been promoted as a euphoria-inducing substance. Most research has been done on the volatile oil of damiana, which includes numerous small, fragrant substances called terpenes.3 As yet, it is unclear if the volatile oil is truly the main active constituent of damiana. Damiana extracts have been shown, in a test tube, to weakly bind to progesterone receptors.4 Thus, damiana may be a potentially useful herb for some female health problems. However, no human studies have investigated this possibility and it is not a primary traditional use.

Royal Jelly

Royal jelly is a thick, milky substance produced by worker bees to feed the queen bee. The worker bees mix honey and bee pollen with enzymes in the glands of their throats to produce royal jelly. Royal jelly is believed to be a potentially useful supplement because of the queen bee's superior size, strength, stamina, and longevity compared to other bees, but these effects have not been studied in humans. Royal jelly contains all of the B vitamins, including high concentrations of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and pyridoxine ( vitamin B6). Other nutritional qualities of royal jelly are similar to those of pollen.

Test tube studies suggest royal jelly may have some cancer-preventive properties. Animal studies have found that royal jelly has some cholesterol-lowering, immune-stimulating, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties.

L-Arginine

The effect of arginine on growth hormone levels1 has interested body builders. In a controlled trial, when arginine and ornithine (500 mg of each, twice per day, five times per week) were combined with weight training, a greater decrease in body fat was obtained after only five weeks, than when the same exercise was combined with a placebo.2 In another study, however, 5 grams of arginine powder, taken orally 30 minutes prior to exercise, failed to affect growth hormone release. Arginine is also a precursor to nitric oxide, which the body uses to keep blood vessels dilated, allowing the heart to receive adequate oxygen. Researchers have begun to use arginine in people with angina and congestive heart failure.

L-Lysine

Lysine is an essential amino acid needed for growth and to help maintain nitrogen balance in the body. Essential amino acids cannot be made in the body and must be supplied by the diet or supplements. Lysine appears to help the body absorb and conserve calcium. Lysine interferes with replication of herpes viruses and is therefore often prescribed by doctors to people with cold sores or genital herpes. A review of the research trials investigating the effects of lysine on people with cold sores shows that most, though not all, trials support the use of lysine.

DHEA

DHEA is extract from wild yam. Supplementation with DHEAS has resulted in increased levels of testosterone and androstenedione, two steroid hormones. The findings of a double-blind trial using 50 mg supplements of DHEA taken daily for six months suggests that DHEA may improve erectile function in some men. DHEA modulates immunity. A group of elderly men with low DHEA levels who were given 50 mg of DHEA per day for 20 weeks, experienced a significant activation of immune function.15 Postmenopausal women have also shown increased immune functioning in just three weeks when given DHEA in double-blind research. Some reports have suggested that DHEA might reduce the risk of heart disease, perhaps by lowering cholesterol levels. Claims have appeared that DHEA is an anti-aging hormone. Double-blind trials, DHEA has improved the sense of well being in elderly individuals. In one double-blind trial, DHEA supplementation did appear to reduce some of the adverse effects of aging, though it did not create "supermen/superwomen."24 In that trial, healthy elderly women and men were given either 50 mg of DHEA or a placebo daily for one year. In addition to a re-establishment of more youthful levels of DHEAS, slight increases were also observed in other hormones, such as testosterone and estrogens. In women over 70 year of age, bone mineral loss was improved. A significant increase in most measures of libido was also seen in these older women. Improvements of the skin were also observed in both women and men.

Yarrow Flower Powder

This prolific plant grows in Europe, North America, and Asia. Traditional herbal medicine has used yarrow in three broad categories.1 First, it was used to help stop minor bleeding and to treat wounds. Second, it was used to treat inflammation in a number of conditions, especially in the intestinal and female reproductive tracts. Third, it was utilized as a mild sedative. Some or all of these historical uses occurred in Europe, China, and India. Studies have shown this herb can reduce smooth muscle spasms, which might further explain its usefulness in gastrointestinal conditions.

Black Cohosh Root Powdered Extract

Black cohosh is a shrub-like plant native to the eastern deciduous forests of North America, ranging from southern Ontario to Georgia, north to Wisconsin and west to Arkansas. The dried root and rhizome are used medicinally. Native Americans valued the herb and used it for many conditions, ranging from gynecological problems to rattlesnake bites. Some 19th century American physicians used black cohosh for fever, menstrual cramps, arthritis, and insomnia.3 Black cohosh contains several ingredients, including triterpene glycosides (e.g., acetin and 27-deoxyactein) and isoflavones (e.g., formononetin). Other constituents include aromatic acids, tannins, resins, fatty acids, starches, and sugars. As a woman approaches menopause, the signals between the ovaries and pituitary gland diminish, slowing down estrogen production and increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) secretions. Hot flashes can result from these hormonal changes. Earlier animal studies4 5 and a human clinical trial6 suggested that black cohosh had some estrogen activity in the body and also decreased LH secretions. However, more recent animal studies7 and a clinical trial8 have found no estrogen activity for black cohosh extracts. Further clinical trials are needed to determine whether black cohosh has significant estrogenic actions in the body. Small German clinical trials support the usefulness of black cohosh for women with hot flashes associated with menopause.

Gamma Oryzanol

Gamma oryzanol is extracted from rice bran oil for commercial purposes. In Japan, this concentrated mixture of ferulic acid and other compounds is commonly added to foods and beverages. The bulk of research on gamma-oryzanol's health benefits has been done in Japan, although supplements are now available in the United States as well. Apparently acting on the brain's control of digestion, and possibly through a direct effect on the stomach, gamma-oryzanol may help to ease heartburn and other digestive-system discomforts. Ulcer sufferers have taken it with some success. Gamma-oryzanol supplements have also relieved pain, nausea, vomiting, and other post-meal gastrointestinal symptoms in study participants suffering from gastritis (stomach inflammation). Japanese scientists conducting various trials have discovered that gamma-oryzanol may ease hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause, and may even help to lower cholesterol. In addition, antioxidant properties in the extract may protect heart vessels from free-radical damage.

Pregnenolone

Pregnenolone is the parent of all hormones. All other sex hormones are derived from it, including DHEA. It is the super hormone of our brain. Pregnenolone or "preg" is the most potent memory enhancer ever discovered. Preg enhances our mental performance, facilitates learning, helps us adapt to stress, increases our feeling of well being and actually makes us happier and more appreciative of life. Preg improves concentration, prevents mental fatigue, increases productivity and improves psychomotor performance. It helps prevent depression. Preg simply keeps our brain functioning at peak capacity.

Preg exists in common medicinal plants such as Angelica, Onidium, Dictamnus and Notoptergium. Preg has very synergistic effects when taken with DHEA and melatonin, Appetite is significantly decreased and cravings for alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, mind altering drugs and even chocolate are usually decreased as well. The sense of well being is increased and the craving for the aforementioned substances decreased or eliminated. Promising results have been shown "preg" as an alternative for estrogen replacement, menstrual problems, lupus, PMS, post-natal depression, menopause, rheumatism, arthritis, seizures, mood disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, clinical depression, diabetes, MS, immune enhancement, insomnia and sleep disorders, tumor inhibition, fibromyalgia, nerve injuries and anxiety. This is only the tip of the iceberg and many years of research are needed just to start to discover what miracles can be found.

Red Raspberry Leaf Powder

Raspberry leaves have been used by herbalists to treat diarrhea. In traditional herbalism and midwifery, red raspberry has been connected to female health, including pregnancy. It was considered a remedy for excessive menstrual flow (menorrhagia) and as a "partus prepartor," or an agent used during pregnancy to help prevent complications. Raspberry leaves are high in tannins and like its relative, blackberry, may relieve acute diarrhea.
